If you have had unusual respiratory problems since you started running your air conditioning unit and think that it may be a result of the AC unit, it's time to get a professional to the home. You don't want to put yourself or anyone else at risk running the unit, and you want to have it cleaned before you end up fatally ill. Here are some of the complications that could be affecting your health that could be from the air conditioning unit running to keep the house cool.
Mold and Mildew
Often mold and mildew will accumulate in your air conditioner over time, especially if there is a condensation problem inside the unit. This can trigger respiratory complications and increase problems for those that suffer from asthma and allergies. Mold and mildew could be removed from the unit but may have already spread throughout the ductwork into the house.
Legionella bacteria that develop in the cooling chamber of the air conditioner can cause serious infection and even death. If your illness is a respiratory infection along with fever, and your physician thinks it's related to legionella bacteria, you need to get the unit cleaned professionally right away. All of this has to be removed for the unit to be safe to run again.
Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome is a respiratory illness that develops when you are exposed to the inhalation of rodent droppings and urine. There could be rodents living in your ducts throughout the house without you knowing, and when you are running the AC unit to keep the house cold, you are spreading the bacteria in the air.
This will require cleaning of the heating and cooling appliances, along with cleaning out the ducts around the home. Then the rodents will need to be removed and prevention methods put in place.
You shouldn't have to sacrifice your health when you want to get cool and comfortable or worry about respiratory problems when you have the air conditioning on. Have a residential HVAC contractor come to your home to clean the air conditioner and to find out if cleaning the unit will be enough to help with these problems you're dealing with, or if you'll need to look into replacing the air conditioner. You want to get the unit right so you can get healthy and don't have to worry about getting ill from staying cool.Share

When our air conditioner broke last year, I was fairly confident that we would be left trying to choose a similar system for a bunch of money. However, our friend who works as a general contractor explained that there were all kinds of neat advances in HVAC systems that might help us out. He explained that we might be able to enjoy a quieter system or one that filters our indoor air more effectively. We liked the sound of that, so we started shopping for a new system. After finding an air conditioner that was perfect for our place, we started this blog to educate other homeowners about new technology.
